10 · Which version on which background

Logo and backgrounds

Yellow is luminous: on light it disappears, and on yellow it cannot be told apart. The rule fits in one sentence: the yellow symbol lives on dark; on yellow, the symbol is a dark crystal.

Choose a background and the selector shows the recommended version, the contrast it achieves and the ones you should not use.

The dark crystal rule

Yellow symbol on a dark background
On dark: yellow symbol, like a lit crystal
Dark symbol on yellow
On yellow: dark symbol, like a smoked crystal
Flat symbol on a light background
On light: flat symbol in amber tones
On dark
Glow yellow (#ffd23f) or white. This is where yellow truly shines: 13.6:1 on Night.
On yellow
Crystal (#1c1400) or black. With the 10.2:1 that dark text gives on Solar, the symbol reads as a silhouette.
On light
Flat version (amber with name in ink) or black. Never pure yellow.
On photos
A reversed version with its own background, or white if the area is dark. Never over a person’s face.

On photographs

A warm photo has light areas and dark areas. The logo goes only on an area of even luminosity, or inside its own background.
